In 2008, thanks to the vision and hard work of its dedicated members, the Nanaimo Marine Rescue Society built a Rescue Station at Brechin Boat Ramp, Nanaimo’s busiest boat launch, near the BC Ferries Departure Bay Terminal. Our convenient location allows easy access to our local waters, with our typical response area being from Nanoose Bay, south to Dodd Narrow’s, Silva Bay and beyond. 
The main space of the boathouse accommodates two slips, to house both of Station 27’s dedicated fast response rescue boats: our open RHIB (Rigid Hull Inflatable Boat) the G.B. Meynell, built in 2008; and the new Falkins Class rollover-capable enclosed rescue boat the J.C. McGregor, built in 2010. One slip is fitted with a lift to raise the RHIB out of the water when not in use to protect the boat from corrosion and fouling with marine organisms. The main space is also used to store larger rescue equipment such as various stretchers, and an extra de-watering pump; tools for maintaining the boats; and our rescue training dummy ‘Oscar‘.
The boathouse also accommodates an office, used for station administration and mission reporting, as well as a heated ready room. Inside the ready room is where the floater suits, rescue drysuits, equipment vests, helmets, radios and member’s personal equipment is stored. The room also doubles as a classroom, with a white board and room for a large banquet table and chairs.
