The Nanaimo Marine Rescue Society is responsible for raising the funds necessary to operate RCM-SAR Station 27. NMRS is a registered charitable organization in Canada, and all donations are tax-deductible.
With no paid employees, every dollar received by the society goes towards running our station, and purchasing and maintaining our search and rescue equipment. All equipment, including our boats, is purchased through funds raised by grants and donations.
Some operating costs, such as the cost of fuel and insurance, are reimbursed by the Department of Fisheries and Oceans on a per-incident basis when we are called out to help people in distress.
